The daffodils are emerging, birds are chirping, and the sun is finally shining.  Spring is officially here!  Young or old, some of our best memories are receiving a beautiful Easter basket on Sunday morning.  Whether it’s shiny chocolate eggs, a plush bunny rabbit, or special treats, filling the basket is just as much fun.  Once the pretty baskets are opened, why not plan a special Easter Egg Hunt for the entire family. It makes for great holiday bonding, outdoor fun, and healthy competition.  Everyone’s a winner!

Here are our Top Ten Tips to engage all of your “peeps” in a funtastic Easter Egg Hunt.

1. Order personalized baskets.  Children will love seeing their very own customized basket, pail or bag.  Use it year after year to make great memories.

2. Organize the hunt by ages.  Make a smaller area in the garden for the little ones, and buy larger plastic eggs for better visibility.  Hide eggs in more obvious places, and closer to the ground.

3. Color code the eggs and group by ages, so the big kids won’t pick up any of the eggs meant for the little guys.

4.  Make bunny footprints with talcum powder and a bunny stencil or paw print to create a clue or path.

5.  Add a few special “prize” eggs.  Tell each group there are five eggs that contain a special prize, such as chocolate eggs, a few dollars, silly putty or any small gift like rings, plastic army soldiers, stickers, etc.

6.  In case of a warm day, freeze chocolate treats and fill eggs right before the hunt begins.  Jelly beans or other hard candy are also good options.

7.  For older children, make it more of a scavenger hunt.  Make a simple map and place clues in some of the eggs that lead them to their Easter Baskets or another big surprise.

8.  Include a piñata.  If you can’t find a bunny piñata, opt for a big flower, sun, or any springtime theme.  Let the youngest go first at a lower height, then raise it as the ages progress and give them a blindfold.

9.  Once the children have found all of the eggs, give them 10 or so to hide for the adults.  They will love the excitement of watching you find them (winkwink).

10.  After the hunt is over, turn the afternoon into a fun-filled competition with games such as the egg and spoon race, three-legged race, tug-of-war, or tag.  After each game, award “egg-citing” treats to the winning team or give out prizes to all the kids to fill their Easter baskets.

“Smart bunny, you found the last clue, a surprise is hiding where sleep happens too!”  Search the web for Scavenger Hunt Easter Riddles to hide in the eggs.
