Christmas is a sacred time to celebrate old and new traditions. Germany is credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition in the 16th century when devout Christians brought trees into their homes decorated with candles. Some of the first Christmas ornaments were shiny red apples, nuts and marzipan cookies. It was commonly believed that apples were used as ornaments because of their relation to the winter solstice (the shortest day and longest night of the year, usually on Dec. 21 or 22), when food was scarce during winter, and stored apples played a big role in the feasts celebrating the solstice. As time went on, apples, nuts and berries were gilded in silver and gold for the wealthy to display on their evergreens.
Today our ornaments come in all colors, shapes and sizes, commemorating Christmases past and cherished family memories. Our new exclusive and hand-drawn white ceramic ornaments by Beverly Hills calligrapher Jillian Yee-Pham are sure to become family heirlooms, expressing the whimsical or spiritual, and can be used on your tree, to personalize a gift, or add a touch of embellishment on a wine bottle. Your customized ornament will be treasured year after year! Personalization is free of charge.
Fun Holiday Tip: Why not start a new tradition with your best friends and organize an ornament exchange? Decide beforehand who you will be gifting, then invite the girls over for cocktails, draw names from a jar, and present your personalized ornaments! Be sure to choose something with special meaning: To mark a sentimental occasion (baby’s first Christmas, a new couple’s first Christmas with the wedding date on the ornament, or a pet’s passing).
